During my lunch break I was browsing through Facebook and in a group about beading I noticed these beautiful earrings that came with a very nice meaning behind the design. When I asked Sarah whether we could share it on Miyukibeading she told me an even more beautiful story about why she wanted to make this particular design. This is her story:
In Japan broken objects are often fixed with gold. The flaw is seen as a unique piece of the object’s history which adds to its beauty. That was my inspiration when I designed these earrings.
My sister lost her baby, it’s been a very hard time for our family. So the idea of kintsugi came to me.
I made these with Picasso beads to give them a handmade bowl or plate look, and then I used silver lined gold to fill in the “cracks”.
The light brown one is the one I made for my sister and the colors blend together so at first glance it all looks like it’s one color, but when the light hits it just right you can see the hint of gold. It matches her well because she is better at hiding her emotions.
The black pair is the one I made for myself. I picked the darker color because I wear mostly black, but it also shows off the gold better and I am one that cannot hide my emotions or flaws.
These are one of my most favorite pairs of earrings to wear because every time I pick them out I am reminded that even though I’m broken, it doesn’t mean that I can’t be beautiful.
