This is a beautiful idea to make as a gift, made by Femke. It is an original, unique piece of craftsmanship as a maternity gift. Femke made this wall decoration for her niece’s nursery. She translated the colours used in the interior into Miyuki beads so that it fits in nicely.
It could also be a beautiful garden ornament that shines in the sun. Keep in mind that the colours of the bead can be affected by the sun. Maybe a half sun/half shade spot is wise 🙂 .
By using large 6/0 rocailles it is also a manageable project, and you don’t have to work on it every evening for weeks on end. I took Femke about 8 hours making it.
Used materials:
– Metal heart frame;
– C-lon bead cord 0.4 mm – light orchid;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads 6-596, 30 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads 6-553, 30 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads 6-536, 30 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads 6-2405F, 30 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads 6-4211, 30 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads, 6-2008, 20 grams;
– Miyuki 6/0 seed beads, 6-131, 50 grams;
– Czech facet round 6 mm – transparent 25 pieces;
– Miyuki 8/0 seed beads 8-596. You need just of few of these.
Work description:
You start by making beads around the heart. You do this using the brick stitch technique. First tie a piece of wire to the metal heart and then string 2 beads.
Make a ‘loop’ as in the picture below and make sure that the wire is under the metal heart. Then put your needle (now above the metal heart) through the second bead and pull it tight.
Now string one bead and repeat the previous steps.
Continue like this until you’ve gone round.
For the next row: follow the same steps, only now you use the ‘loops’ of thread from the previous round:
Then she also added a row of beads on the outside. You need these to string the fringes on. String the fringes according to the pattern that you can find below. When you have strung all the beads of 1 row, string them back through the beads, only skip the last one (8/0 seed bead). Also string through the light pink bead that is attached to the heart, and then string through the bead next to it back down.
