Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am really a maker and do-it-yourselfer: seeing something, looking very carefully and giving it your own twist. That is especially true with handcrafts (crochet and knitting).
How does designing work for you? How do your ideas come about?
I really like combining different techniques, for example painting a face and then needle-punching the hair or crocheting a border on it.
How did you discover or come up with these variations?
Crafts have been done for so long and by so many people. It is almost impossible to come up with something new. That is why I think having your own style is very important. Especially if you want to sell or show your own products.
Which technique is really your favorite, or does it change what you like to spend your time on?
I actually don’t have a favorite activity; I like everything. I am often in a phase that alternates. The phase I am in now is a lot of fiddly crochet (Oya crochet: a traditional needle art). Also, here I try to create my own style by using many cheerful color combinations. I use different materials together while crocheting, and I add beads to that. I am in love with the Miyuki seed beads 11/0. They’re beautifully shaped, and the colors remain beautiful. How frustrating is it when you have crocheted for hours and your beads become bare. Quality is so important, especially if you put a lot of hours into your work. You want it to remain beautiful.
What tricks do you use for color combinations?
My tip: just do it and it will look very cheerful! An example of a combination that I like is: purple with yellow and red with turquoise.
