LADDER STITCH
STEP 1a) We start by stringing 2 beads onto the thread. Insert the needle in the same direction through bead 1 and bead 2 again. If you tighten the thread now, the beads will lie on top of each other.
Tip: Use a long thread because the thread will go multiple times through the same bead.
STEP 2a) String 1 bead onto the thread. Insert the needle through bead 2 and then back through bead 3. Repeat until you reach the desired length.
TIP: The finished row of beads can feel a bit flimsy, because it is hard to keep an even thread tension. You can fix it like this:
When you are done stringing your desired length you can thread the needle back through the beads like in the example here below.
You can also use the ladder stitch with multiple beads per row:
STEP 1b) String 6 beads onto the thread. Insert the needle in the same direction through bead 1 to 3 and then through bead 4 to 6.
STEP 2b) String 3 beads onto the thread. Insert the needle through bead 4 to 6 and then through bead 7 to 9.
Repeat the previous steps to add new rows of beads until you have the desired amount of rows.
SQUARE STITCH
STEP 1) We start by stringing the desired amount of beads on the thread. Make sure your thread will be long enough for the whole piece you are making. If your thread will be long enough you can also add more beads later. Insert the needle in the same direction through bead 6.
STEP 2 ) Then repeat the previous step for the next beads, so insert the needle in the same direction throught bead 5, then 4 etc. You can make the chain as long as you want!
